    Description

A vintage wooden black and gold Butsudan or Buddhist alter.  This is a wooden cabinet that has two doors that open up to a alter inside that has two levels.  There are two drawers that pull out on the bottom of the piece. The drawers measure
    6 14/"  by 8 1/2" with a depth of 2".
This type of alter is found in Japanese Buddhist cultures. The doors usually open up to store a religious icon such as Buddha. The cabinet is used to pay respects to the Buddha as well as to family members who have passed on. The inside of the cabinet is meant to hold incense, candles, icons, bells, or offerings. The doors are opened during the ritual and closed when finished.
This cabinet measures 21 3/4" tall and is 15 3/4" wide. The depth of the cabinet is 9 3/4".  The exterior of the cabinet has a shiny black paint on that does have scratches and wear. It would be a beautiful project piece to refinish. The construction of the cabinet is solid and will last for many years to come.
The inside of the cabinet has a smoky scent where incense has been burned inside.
