    Description

Jerome Balaam Pound, Memoirs of Jerome B. Pound, With Histories of Pound - Murphy - Willingham - Palmer - Pitts Families Bound to Me By Ties of Blood, copyright 1949 by the author. Burgundy cloth hc with gold lettering and coat of arms on front, plain endpapers, viii, 340 pp (no index), about 86 bw illustrations including frontispiece. Memoir of a boy from post-Civil-War Georgia, whose family lost their inheritance in a pre-bank deposit system. One of his many ambitions was to be able to change his underwear everyday. With little education, he became a typesetter and started his own newspaper at age 16. His adventures as newspaperman to hotelier are interspersed with anecdotes, people and history (from Sherman's March to the Atomic Bomb). One of Pound's grandsons lived in High Point, N.C., before and after working for the FBI in World War II (p. 231). Good+/no DJ: corners and edges wearing, scuff/scratch marks on covers, spine lettering completely faded, surname in ink on ffep, pages lightly tanned, no internal markings.
