    Description

Olds S-24G Bass Trombone (Double Trigger, F G/D) RARE! CUSTOMIZED FLAWLESS SLIDE. Condition is "Used".
Owned professionally. Olds Bass Trombone Model S-24G, In-line Independent. Second valve G/D. Both valves in D plays in first position. This is very similar in playability to the George Roberts Model but with the second G/D valve. Has 9.5" Rose Brass Bell, Nickel Silver Slide, Light weight, Super Smooth, no chrome wear on inners. FLAWLESS. It plays fantastic. The trombone world was always critical of this model because the valve action wasn't comfortable for the player. The ergonomics were off, grip and balance were difficult. The previous owner re-designed the first valve with modern linkage. The valves are easy to pull, quiet and fast- release evenly when pulled together. Overall the horn plays fantastic. Would be great for all around bass trombone use, orchestra, band, big band, chamber, solo. .562 slide.
SEE BELOW. Common S-24G issue corrected. See trigger photos for modification.

"Olds placed the new hornin their "Super" line and gave it the model number S-24G, the "G" beingderived from the tuning of the second valve (G). It was the firstfactory-produced independent double rotor bass - and it had problems.Olds bass trombone rotors had always been on the small side, andputting two ofthem in the open horn resulted in a very stuffy blow. Additionally, the lever for the second valve tended to bump the player's collar bonewhen the paddle was depressed. The undersize valves remained for theS-24G's production run, but Olds did attempted to address the leverissue by installing a bracket under the valves to make sure there wassufficient clearance for the lever, but some players found the bracketitself uncomfortable (note the horn shown here came to me without abracket, though it appears to have had one at one time)."
