Description
I have several new, unused, copies of theDescendants of James Forbes of Hartford, Connecticut (c. 1635-1692)
beginning with the immigrant James Forbes, continuing down through the generations, and including many collateral lines associated with other old New England families including Roberts, Collier, Olmsted, Gaines, Adam, Hills, Goodale, Griswold, Pitkin, Williams, Tinker, Loveland, and Scranton. James Forbes, a Scotchman, is first mentioned in Hartford, Connecticut, in1658 when he was working on a Mr. Goodens' farm. He married
Catharine
and had six children: John, Dorothy, Mary, David, Sarah and James. The book chronicles his life and those of his sons and daughters and their descendants, many down into the thirteenth generation. Throughout the years, while many of his descendants remained in Connecticut, many others moved to New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Alabama, and California, and the family is now found in almost every state.
The index includes the name of every descendant as well as male and female spouses' names, and for easy reference, includes the year of birth of the descendant where known. There are a number of photographs, typed copies of old wills and estate papers, as well as deeds. The book is hardbound in dark blue with gold embossing, is 766 pages and includes a complete bibliography. While several books have been published on other Forbes lines, in Massachusetts and North Carolina in particular, this is the only book on James Forbes of Connecticut. If you're researching your Forbes line, you need this book!
