Banzai Pipeline roars to life on the cover feature with photos in this issue of The Surfer Quarterly Vol.3, No.1. A John Severson Production from Spring 1962. Plus "surfing has gained a firm foothold in France," and Rick Griffin takes us to Camp Pendelton in his two-page comic strip "Murphy and the Marines." Issue is loaded with photos, including a "classic" from Sunset Beach as a tunnel thunders down behind Paul Gebauer.
Severson writes: “Full of characters, fads and fantasies, surfing is perhaps the most colorful sport to emerge since the Greek bare-handed bullfights.”
Also awesome ads from 57-years ago.
