Van Camp’s Hominy 1940s Display Can-SEALED TOP! Paper Label, GREAT VTG GRAPHICS!
ESTATE FIND! I bought a collection of antique metal cans and wax paper cartons from food products from the mid-1930s to the early 1950s...including many unopened/sealed display cans that never had product inserted!! These were NOT kids toy sizes, they are full-size products that either came from a food distributor, packaging salesman or someone that had a store display for some purpose, possibly a fair or restaurant? Regardless, I had never seen anything like it so of course had to buy them. ;0)

can with a paper label. Can is undated but from the 1940s era, with its tin top still sealed and intact! It measures about 4 1/2 inches tall, with a top diameter of about 3

”. Can held 1 pound

67 grams, and was made by Stokely-Van Camp Inc. in Indianapolis, Indiana.
It features a paper label with wonderful

graphics, a
ring of white
homi
ny around the top of the can, and the VanCamp‘s classic maroon on the bottom 2/3

SWEET STUFF
! The can was opened from the bottom, which was removed but the top is still intact so it will display great.
It’s incredible to think that this was made about the time of World War II ending! What an amazing time capsule this estate purchase was, there can’t be many of these cans surviving today.
These colors are vibrant and beautiful and I could see this being displayed in a
food
advertising collection, vintage can collection, or to brighten a vintage kitchen.
Condition is good, only minor wear as you can see.
I will say that the camera captures the maroon color
in
a brighter
red
than
it appears in real life… I experimented with
and
without flash
,
but can’t seem to capture the true color quite right.
