    Description

Souvenir set from the Empress River Casino, located in Joliet, Illinois. It operated from June, 1992 until it was destroyed by a fire, 20 March 2009.
The set includes a retired deck of casino playing cards, with red backs. The Empress Casino logo is at each end, so it's visible whichever way the card is held. (photo 9)
The cards have a single hole punched through the center, to prevent illicit use in the casino. (photos 4-9) The deck has also a black marker stripe along 2 oppotise (diagonal) corners (photo 10 shows one)--as if the hole in the center wouldn't be enough of a giveaway!
The cards were manufactured by the U. S. Playing Card Co., out of Cincinnati, Ohio (photo 8). It is their "Aristocrat" brand. (photo 4) All 52 cards are present (photo 7), along with 2 Jokers and the "Scanning Code card". The serial number under the bar code (T7746) matches the code under the Ace of Spades. (photo 8)
Aside from the security measures added by the casino (hole and black stripe) I see no other damage to the cards--no tears, bent corners, creased cards, etc.
I don't believe the cards were ever used after purchase.
The cards come in a card box. It has a "window" with cellophane (so you can see the logo on the card back). Below that is a sticker with the phone numbers for reservations and for group reservations of 20 or more. The box is in very good condition. (photos 5 & 6)
A pair of red dice (clear plastic with white pips) also comes with it. (photos 4-6) They were taped together prior to sale, and I have not removed that tape. They are imprinted on the "sixes" side with "245" in gold (photo 5), and "Empress" running diagonally on the "twos" side (photo 6). Enlarge to view better On the reverse side of the middle pip on the "threes" side, the initials "BJ" are visible (photo 11), through the clear dice. Enlarge those photos to view better. I do not know if these dice were actually used in the casino.
The cards and dice are stored in a small metal tin, 3 3/4" by 5" by 1 1/8" (photos 1-4). It has a lift off (not hinged) lid (photo 4), with a color image of the casino. Around the sides of the tin are alternating images of cards and dice and the Empress Casino logo (photo 3). Part of the original price sticker is still on the bottom of the tin (photo 2).
