and mounted on a single black 8x10 inch backing board

Sadly Marvin passed away several years ago and was a longtime friend of the photographer who surfed with his older brother for many years. We hope this photo will help preserve and honor his memory in surfing history.  It is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage, and has photography and preservation tips included in the label on the back.
Waimea Bay is one the largest surf breaks in the world and also home of the Eddie Aikau Memorial Big Wave Surfing contest only held when the waves are at least 25 foot high. The waves here are some of the most powerful on earth, generated by far distant North Pacific Ocean storms during the winter months (Sept-March). They are an incredible example of the ocean's mightiness. This 20 foot high wave is breaking in water only about four feet deep. It has been said that one wave this size if harnessed for energy could provide enough electrical power to light a thousand homes for over an hour. Native Hawaiians, surfers, and a lot of oriental people consider these magnificent waves to be a supreme example of power and manifested with the spirit of mother nature. To actually see these waves breaking along the shoreline is an awesome, humbling, and unforgettable experience.
It would make a great gift for someone who likes this area, knew the surfer, or likes surfing images of Hawaii. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.

An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo. Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using an archival photo adhesive and cannot be easily removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. If you want to use a larger frame and can't figure out how to do it with the photo mounted on the backing board, contact us and we can explain how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10 inch frame and displaying the image as is.

This giclee print was photographed by Hawaii professional surfing, stock photographer, and master black and white printer Bill Romerhaus, of North Shore Photography, who has been shooting surfing and scenics since 1967. This is a 35mm format print cropped to fit and mounted using an archival adhesive on an 8x10 mat backing board, with caption and photographer information on the back. It is initialed and dated on the front of the photo, and is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage. It has preservation tips included in the label on the back.
His most recent work has appeared in the  CBS/Eye productions "Hawaii 50", Disney/Dreamworks productions "Fright Night", ABC Television pilot "My Generation", Sony Pictures "Soul Surfer", CBS/Paramount Network TV series "The Cleaner" on A&E Networks, Universal Pictures "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", and Warner Brothers  "The Big Bounce", filmed on the North Shore or on Oahu, providing vintage photos of nostalgia, and surfing for background artwork.  Bill has lived in Hawaii for over 50 years. In 1965 he shot his first surfing photo and was a contributing photographer to 'Surfer', and 'Surfing' magazines, and over 30 international surfing magazines and manufacturers, as a photojournalist for over 100 publications, advertising/stock photo agencies, and corporate clients worldwide.
In 1983 Bill started NORTH SHORE PHOTOGRAPHY, specializing in black & white darkroom services, after attaining the status as a master black & white printer and film processor for professional clients island wide. His photos have credited him with over 200 cover shots and full page advertisements. His work has appeared in Popular Photography, Shutterbug, American Photographer, Shape, Men's Fitness, Surfing, Surfer, Honolulu, Aloha, Hawaii newspapers, Outdoor, Outside, Conde Nast Traveler, National Enquirer, CNN, Discovery & History Channels, & many others. Professional clients have included American Express, Vogue International, Analog Clothing, Hilton Hotels, Hawaiian Tropic, Hawaiian Airlines, etc.
He was also a contributing photographer for over 40 years to The North Shore News, in Haleiwa. Bill now specializes in printing historic and nostalgic images of Hawaii (NOSTALGIC PHOTOS HAWAII) from the thousands of photos he has produced and collected as a professional photographer in the past five decades living in Hawaii and selling his twice award winning photo history book "Haleiwa: A Pictorial History".
He is currently represented by Getty Images, one of the world's largest photo archives and most prestigious stock agencies.
