    Description

This is a rare very good quality hand printed original shrinkwrapped silver halide gelatin photograph custom printed by long time Hawaii professional surfing photographer Bill Romerhaus in a darkroom from the original negative, archivally developed in chemistry on Ilford 'Pearl' semi-matte surface black & white photographic paper, cropped, and
mounted on a single 8x10 inch backing board
**which is included as part of the print
(see photo) with caption and photography information on the back of surfer riding a wave at Yokohama (Keeau beach park) on the west side of Oahu
. This was a 'suicide right' over the rocky section part of the normally left hand break. For those of you who have surfed or have seen the break you know how hollow and shallow it can be, with the treacherous backwash. The history of the break and other info are on the label on the back. It is initialed ('BR 8
    8
    ') in the lower corner.
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes this surfing area, or collects original vintage images of Hawaii.
Our hand printed silver halide gelatin original photos are very popular and affordable to local people and tourists visiting Hawaii, as well as people who have never visited Hawaii.
We're proud to mention that many of our photos were used as background artwork in the new CBS television network series "Hawaii 5-0".
The photos are the 'old style' traditional film based images printed using an enlarger from a negative on real photographic paper and archivally processed by hand, not by a machine. Prices are less than you would pay retail at a gallery or custom photo lab for a hand printed and mounted silver halide black and white print and production costs are lower than most folks so we want to offer affordable quality.

    PLEASE ALSO NOTE
    :
e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen makes the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. This photo is printed on non-glossy semi-matte 'pearl' surface paper and the photo offered has more gray tones, deep, richer blacks, less contrast, and has the unique look of a real silver halide gelatin print, which has a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen. It was taken on film, not digital, so it will look grainier. Please be aware of this. You may be able to see small imperfections on larger images as these are printed by hand 'as is' and are not retouched. It is printed on 8x10 inch paper from an original negative and margins may be slightly trimmed. **When it is attached to the single 8x10" mat backing board you will be able to see the backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a thin margin at the edges of the photo which you can see here.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using archival photo adhesive and cannot easily be removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo. If you want to use a larger frame and mat and you can't find an experienced framer who knows how to do it, contact us and we can provide information explaining how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10" frame and displaying the image as is. We want to make sure you know exactly what you are buying so we hope our thorough description of these photos will answer all your questions before you purchase.
